Sri Lanka is an extremely old country with a colorful history in gem industry. Sri Lanka was also known as “Ratna-Deepa” (Island of Gems) for the quality stone this mother country has produced to the world. Ancient sailors who visited the island called it the “Jewels of the Serendib” for those jewels bought from Sri Lanka. Marco Polo the great sailor wrote that “this island had the finest sapphires, topazes and other gems” Geological evidence show that this country has about 90% of the rocks a Precambrian aging between 0.5 to 2.5 billion years and have resulted in those sedimentary rocks bearing the gems. This makes Sri Lankan land as one of the highest density of gem deposits compared to its landmass. The gem-city (Ratnapura) is located in the veins of those rivers and streams where the residual deposits are mainly found. We have a large collection of precious and semi-precious, cut and uncut stones of blue sapphires, rubies, star sapphires, topaz and other variety of gem stones.
